Dr. Ray Melendez, San Antonio Orthodontist

Dr. Ray Melendez is a board-certified orthodontist with over twenty years of extensive experience in adolescent and adult cases to include treatment of complex cases requiring orthognathic (jaw) surgery.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Florida and completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D) degree at the University of Florida. Dr. Melendez continued his post-doctorate education in Dentofacial Orthodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

During his distinguished service in the military, Dr. Melendez was stationed in Europe, Asia, Afghanistan and North Carolina.  He served as the Program Director for the Army, Air Force and Navy, Orthodontic Residency Program at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. Additionally, he served as the primary orthodontic instructor for the Army and Air Force Maxillofacial Surgery Training Programs at Womack Hospital, Fort Bragg Army Post and at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base.

Dr. Melendez retired as a Colonel and served as the Consultant to the Surgeon General.  Upon retiring he was awarded three Meritorious Service Medals and the prestigious Legion of Merits Award for his service in the military.

Dr. Melendez is considered a notable practitioner in his field and has lectured in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery for multiple Dental Residency Programs and major Universities throughout the country.

Currently, Dr. Melendez lives in San Antonio, Texas with his wife of 27 years and daughter who is currently enrolled in Dental School.
